family. Chopard founded the firm in Sonvillier in the Swiss Jura Mountains. A
major supplier to Swiss Railways in its early days. In 1920 the company moved to

After about a century in the watchmaking business the company was bought by Karl
Scheufele in 1963. Karl Scheufele, being a jeweler at that time, proposed the
idea to combine watchmaking and jewelry in one brand. His aim was to create a
company that he could lead to higher levels of accomplishment what concerns
design and technology.
A new page for the famous brand was created when Karl Scheufele constructed in
Meyrin-Geneva a production facility. 1976 was the year when Chopard unveiled the
Happy Diamonds collection which is very famous nowadays.
Later in 1980s a collection of Gstaad timepieces was launched.
Mille Miglia watch was a result of tight collaboration of Chopard and its
official partner Mille Miglia. Their creation is considered to be an icon of
vintage automobile racing. Starting with the 10th decade of the 20th century the
offsprings of Karl and Karin Scheufele were involved in their family business.
Their daughter, Caroline dealt with jewelry design and her brother Karl-Friedrich
began managing the wrist watches division.
The opening of the movement factory in Fleurier in 1996 was a step which helped
the brand to establish itself as a complete manufacturer. The debut of L.U.C.
movement the same year was a big impulse for all movements that were to come.

Strada – a collection inspired from the 1950s and to the innovative

Louis-Ulysse Chopard wanted to manufacture premium watches so he founded a
company named Chopard in 1860 in Switzerland and to this day produces expensive
masterpieces. The company was later bought by famous jewellery maker Karl
Scheufele in 1963.
Karl always wanted to join his jewellery company with a watch making under one
roof. Chopard two brands Happy Diamonds Collection and the Gstaad Collection of
watches. Later in 1988 Chopard partnered with Mille Miglia to make the same name
watches and they became a symbol of vintage car racing. Later in the 1990’s
Karl’s children took over the company and introduced more new designs
including sports watches under the name of LUC Sport 2000 collection. Chopard
also sponsored many charities and also supported the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
It also created limited edition Elton John watches to help the AIDS foundation.
